Trial runs

When you go to a new event you do a trial run to familiarise yourself with the layout of transition (you might have to visualise) and learn where the exit and enter places will be, and you tend to run/bike the routes.

It’s just as important to have a trial run when you’re going to dress up.  You want to know how much of a dork you’ll look, or make sure you look dorky enough.

I’ve run around looking for tights for my outfit.  I finally settled on some tonight.  I don’t know why I hummed and haad since I’m unlikely to wear them again. EVER.

Then it was off for liquid eye liner, white lipstick and glue for my false eyelashes.

Mission over.

So all that was left was to give the makeup a crack.  That worked reasonably well.  Then apply the false eyelash.  I was only doing one eye.  That worked well too.  I think I might be able to pull this whole 70’s look off.  Though I can’t say I’m confident that it will be 100’s on the money.

Next I tried on the tights, put on the boots and threw on the dress.

What a sight!  What an awful sight.

If I didn’t think my legs looked short and fat before, just try the outfit with cobalt blue tights.  Eeek.  Bright orange boots up to my knee, then the tights and the dress which hangs to where my tan line starts from my bike shorts. Talk about accentuating the short and fat bits.

What a very scary look indeed.  And by that time I’d taken the makeup off.

My only comfort is that everyone else will be dressed up in similar fashion and I shouldn’t stand out.  Thank God for small mercies.

  1. Yeah, except they’ll all be wearing brown flares and polyester shirts in a complimentary camel colour, whereas you’re going to light up the night sky. Mwaahahaha! You sound very 60s flower-power-like. I hope you’ll post a photo. You will, won’t you. ;-)

  2. I second Rachel on the request of a photo.
    Have a fun night tomorrow.

  3. and I’m in for thirds.
Rachel the 60’s flower power look continued into the early 70’s so she still makes it. In fact a lot of fashion in those days sort of carried into and outta various fads and crazes so you couldn’t really say there was one specific ‘look’.

  4. Yes, I’ll have a short fat ugly photo tomorrow. I do intend to get a few photos of the night, even as we’re decorating this morning.

I didn’t take one last night because I was only 1/2 made up and my “dress rehearsal” was minus the makeup.

Besides, I think Mark might have been laughing too much for the anti-shake on the camera to work effectively, he might have been pushing the technology to the limit.

  5. Oh my goodness…..STOP talking like that right now!! ‘Short, fat, ugly’?? Get out of here! You are not fat, and you are not ugly….no matter how you’re dressed young lady! Don’t talk such utter crap! Sorry for my language on your blog, but come on….self confidence please :)
