Busier times ahead
I feel like I’ve hardly had time to take a breath (work-wise) but it’s actually going to get busier.
Next week I’m in Wellington running a training session for a client. Hopefully Bec’s roster will be such that we can go for a run together. And I’ll also have a chance to catch up with my sister and her family.
The following week I’m in Auckland, back home for a week (to keep me sane) before heading back to Wellington.
It’s going to make organising my training programme a little more challenging, but hey, we all live for a challenge – right?
Last night was my very first solo night run. I had so much to do when I got home and it would have been really easy to pike out. After all it was nippy outside and now DARK.
Rachel, you’ve inspired me with your commitment to your programme and not having missed a session in the what, 5, or was it 7 weeks (probably longer)?
So I took off at 6pm. It was running group night but I new that I had no chance to get anything done if I went to running group and so I had to vary my programme a bit to allow me achieve the best of both worlds.
Mark had just arrived home and I was finishing mopping up cat sick and it was out the door and off for my first run since my 3 weeks break.
It felt so nice. I had no leg niggles (we wont mention the discomfort in my feet) and my breathing felt quite easy. Until the last 2km. There’s something about being nearly home that seems to make the training harder.
I started out with my phone in my cycle vest back pocket. It wasn’t comfortable and I could have probably managed the bumping up and down against my back except that it was chirping, so the buttons must have been pressed by the bouncing.
So the rest of the way – almost 8km left I had it in my hand. It was dark, I had my headlight on and I was scared of tripping and ending up throwing my (expensive) phone on the ground.
Thankfully I was coordinated enough to avoid that, though I did trip a couple of times.
This morning was a ride to work. It felt much colder than -2 deg that I’ve biked in before, but that’s because it was -4!
I was pleased that my speed was up around 27-29km/hr. Of course the overall average is much less. Darn stop/starting for lights.
Tonight it’s spin class and then biking home.
I’m looking forward to it.
Right, time to get some other things off my desk, I’m feeling a bit cluttered and that in turn makes me feel disorganised. And since I’m working in the CBD the rest of the week I have only this afternoon to catch myself up. So I best hop to it
