Our babies

20 June 2008 Leave a comment

We dropped the boys off this morning for their yearly vaccination and groom and left instructions for them to be wormed (cos we just make a hash of it).

There was a young dog already in a big cage beneath the two cages they were staying in.  The dog must have been frightened by us and growled the whole time we were there.

Thankfully the boys wouldn’t have eye contact, and I’m sure the dog was pleased to see the back of us and probably settled down.

Last year the groom was completed with just a sedative and that’s what we expected today.  So confident were we that the boys had breakfast (they graze all day as they want).

It wasn’t to be.  They didn’t cooperate.  They started out with a sedative but weren’t having any of it (the groom).  So they ended up being put under.

That explains the almost $400 bill!

When we picked them up they were still a bit drowsy.  Maranello was sitting in his litter tray, and Murcielago was teetering on his legs cowering in the corner.  I couldn’t coax him out.  I pulled the newspaper that he was sitting on but he kept getting up and backing himself into the corner.

Now that we’re home they can’t get enough of us.  They have been sitting at our feet and want to be petted.

They have both ended up immersing their bibs in water as they’ve drunk from the Cat-it.  So much for the beautiful groom.

Well that’s that for another year.  I wonder what next year will bring, will they be happy with a sedative or should I adjust my budget now so there’s no nasty surprise.

To new acquaintances

20 June 2008 1 comment

I know I’ve not been blogging long, so when I say in my “early day”, it’s really only a couple of weeks ago.

In my early days I didn’t really know much about blogging (still don’t if the truth be told – which doesn’t mean I usually lie!) or how to search blogs.

I’m talking a time before I ran my 1/2 marathon, so pre-June.

I did a search for 1/2 marathon and came across a random blog which I read, that lead me to another blog which I read and read and read.  And I laughed a lot at what I read.

Meet Kritta.

You’ve got to read Kritta’s “Readers Manual” page.  It’s an absolute LOL type of laugh.

I’m not sure why I found Kritta’s blog such entertainment, I think partly her sense of humour is very much like my brother’s – who I dearly miss (London’s a long way from New Zealand).

As it turns out, Kritta’s into cycling and running and she has two cats.  So I guess despite never having meet, we have some things in common.

You can’t help but become involved in Kritta’s experiences as you read her blog.

She’s a journalist, so along with her wit, and charm, she puts together a darn good read.

In some ways I wanted to say to those that drop in on my blog “hey, read this blog it’s really entertaining”, but what if people thought I’m nuts to encourage them to read someone else’s blog that I barely know from Adam.

Not only that, by adding Kritta’s blog to my post would mean she would find out that I’ve spoken about her.  I mean this is some stranger that I’ve never met.  What if she thought I was a head-case and might be stalking her.  Though I’m not sure how easy that would be from the other side of the world.

Today Kritta put out the call asking people to blog about her.  I’m not sure what her motives are but I decided that request was all the encouragement I needed to finally put pen to paper (digits to keyboard) to say: I’ve found a really cool blog to read that makes me laugh and contemplate my own personal views and helps me see things from someone else’s perspective.

So Kritta, here’s to new acquaintances.

Toasting

I want you to know I found your blog a great read, it’s enlightening and amusing and thought provoking too.  I’m glad I stumbled through the great unknown and found your blog.

The Internet is a funny thing.  Funny in the way that you can find common ground with people you never would have met had it not been for some random twist of fate that brought you together.

There’s the good and the bad, but Kritta’s the good.

As unlikely as it is that we’ll ever “meet” in person, I’m sure it would be a side-splitting experience where my ribs would ache and my face hurt from all the laughter.

Keep it up, you’re good value :D

And through Kritta’s blog, K Hutch found my blog and she’s (thankfully) enjoying my blogging.

So a further thanks for acquaintances shared.

Now for the drum roll, Kritta makes it to my “Blogs I read” section.  Welcome!
