Three weeks!

2 June 2008 3 comments

Good on Richard for phoning tonight – as always on a Monday. Despite having caught up with Richard after the 1/2 yesterday he still called. Got pretty much the same story but we spoke about what I was considering for my next event and …… the “off season”.

Three weeks he asks. I was thinking two and was becoming accustomed to that but three?

I’m said I’ll let him know how I feel after two.

It’s weird. Ok it’s not weird for me, but I’m sure people will think I can’t make my mind up. There are days when I look at my programme and think it’s a chore and struggle to find the motivation. But then to go three weeks without anything is more than I am comfortable with.

The first two weeks wont be difficult because I’m pretty much out of town for that period of time so it would have been hard to train – especially if it involved biking.

I’m sitting here writing my blog instead of packing. I think I’ve mentioned I hate packing. I just about find anything else to do to distract me from packing. I went to add to my clothes while the ads were on and found that I just stared at the pile and made no progress before Bones was back on.

Back to the three weeks off. I explained to Richard without training I have more time, with more time I get restless and bored. When I’m restless and bored I eat! Not a good combination.

I’m going to be jittery sitting in a hotel for the rest of the week. No training, no home comforts, nothing to do in the evenings. I bet I’ll have some really long posts or I’ll be so bored I can’t be bothered doing anything. But because I hate packing I wont be adding any bad foods to the suitcase – and Lord knows there’s enough in the pantry.

Ok, I really need some sleep and my clothes are laid out on the bed so I guess I’ll get something in the suitcase after all.

One other thing that annoys me about heading out of town, I had to cancel my massage appointment and right now I’m suffering from my run yesterday. I can’t believe I didn’t put Anti-Flamme on yesterday. What was I thinking?! (or not thinking).

I have to stop finding snippets of information that I think is interesting to add here and get my butt off the seat and pack that suitcase!

Next event to train for

As I sit at the table scouring the internet for my next event, I’m suffering a little from yesterday’s run. I’d rate it a bit more than mild discomfort. I stop and think about kneeling down to put the smalls on the clothes airer in front of the fire. And once down I have to prepare myself for getting back up.

Never mind. I’m sure it was much like this last time I ran 21.1k on the road.

Now I need to find something new to focus my energy on.

Richard has me filling out a folder of all sorts of things that give an understanding of what makes me tick. One of which is a list of long term goals.

I had listed a hill running event as one of my goals. And as I remind myself what else was listed I see I put down the Hanmer 1/2 in 2009. Guess I better start planning for that too!

Hmmm, looking through the folder I spot my Weaknesses. One being a lack of willpower to push myself – a bit like yesterday when I couldn’t seem to step up the pace. Another is Comparing to others. We had to address how we were to improve the weakness. I said see myself as an individual and acknowledge there are differences.

Boy it was easy to write, harder to follow through with.

Back to my scouring the internet looking for an off-road run.

I think I found it. It’s the Shoe Clinic Crater Rim Trail Run. Unfortunately there’s no details, just an email address.

So I’ve sent my email. I don’t know if this is a repeat event or not. I don’t remember seeing it when I was last on the website a couple of weeks back.

But it might fit the bill. Though 20km of off-road is a lot I guess. Still, I know if I decide to do it, and commit to it, I will achieve it. It’ll be a whole new ball game but that’s what makes it exciting.

We’ll have been in Sydney on holiday a fortnight before the event so not sure if it fits well for training.

First things first, wait for a reply to get a better understanding of what it involves and talk to Richard and see if he thinks it will be the right type of event for me.
